Six tips for getting your home ready this fall!

#1. Check on the state of your gutters!

  • Make sure they are working
  • Clean them
  • Potentially consider replacing them if they are not in great condition

Gutters potentially save your roof from gallons of water every year, if you’re neglecting your gutters your roof might be in trouble and new gutters are much cheaper than new roofs.

#2. Speaking about your roof, give it a look too!

  • Grab some binoculars or a ladder and look for damage, missing or lose shingles
  • If your roof is flat, keep up maintenance on leaves and debris.

There is never a good time for your roof to start causing issues for you but the winter is absolutely the worst weather for it.

#3. How breezy Is your home?

  • Check your windows and doors to see where potential drafts could arise
  • Invest in weatherstripping as the most cost-effective solution and install them

You are potentially losing money through the cracks of your windows and doors, so take some time to check all the potential culprits!

#4. When’s the last time you looked at your driveway?

  • Invest in fixing your driveway cracks
  • Cement crack filler can stop a major issue before it can start

A few small cracks won’t be so small after the winter weather gets to them, save yourself some hassle and stay on top of it now before you’re having the entire driveway redone in the spring.

#5. Remember your furnace?

  • Consider hiring an HVVAC professional to test your furnace and change the filter.
  • Consider having a carbon monoxide check to ensure air safety
  • Stock up on air filters and change them every few months

Winters can be difficult enough with the dry air, and cold temperatures. The last thing you need is your furnace giving up during a snowstorm or having issues, catch it now in the fall and thank yourself later.

#6. Do a scan of your yard…

  • Remove the leaves, check your local city or town requirements for pick-up schedules.
  • Inspect Trees, check for damaged limbs that may break that are close to power lines or the roof.
  • Service sprinklers and irrigation systems
  • Put away seasonal furniture to prevent weather damage
  • Organize your garage and get winter equipment ready.

It’s easy to let these tasks get away from you but it’s much easier to complete these without inches of snow outside.
