Common First Time Buyer Mistakes
There are six common mistakes that first time home buyers make.
1. They don't take the time to interview a number of agents to find one who is willing and able to consult with them throughout the buying process. An agent has to be a good listener and patient enough explain every every aspect of the transaction.
2. They don't get a referral to a reputable local lender and then ask enough questions to end up with the best product for them.
3. When they find the right house they don't act quickly enough and the seller accepts another offer in the interim.
4. They don't do enough to make their offer look appealing to a seller.
5. They think they can buy a house for much less than it's actual market value and ignore comparable properties that their agent prepares.
6. They don't think about resale before they buy. The average first time buyer only stays in their home for four years.
Buying a first home can be an exciting adventure. Taking the step to participate in the American Dream of home ownership offers a wealth of emotional and financial benefits.
Most importantly, a first time buyer needs to hire a great Realtor who can be their trusted adviser, skilled negotiator, and expert facilitator.
