Lansing Fall Activities for the Whole Family

Fall is always an exciting time in Michigan. The leaves are changing color and, though the air temperature is cooler, it is much more comfortable. Not only is this a time of weather, scenery, and style changes, but it also signals a change of seasonal activity. Make the most of this fall season and create lasting family memories by engaging in some of the classic, Lansing-area fall activities. 

Take a Trip to The Country Mill

The Country Mill is located just southwest of Lansing and offers a wealth of fall attractions, including a cider mill, apple orchard, pumpkin patch, and petting zoo. They’re actually one of the few Mid-Michigan orchards that still allows families to pick their own apples, and they have a huge variety of apples, many of which are certified organic. 

After you’ve gone to The Country Mill and picked your apples, you can continue the fall fun at home by making caramel apples or baking apple pie. If you decide to grab a couple pumpkins while there, you’ll be set to carve jack-o-lanterns and roast the seeds.

Visit Andy T’s Farm

Andy T’s is a family-friendly farm market that has a plentiful variety of fun, fall activities for all ages. They are currently offering hayrides to a field where you can find pumpkins, Indian Corn, and gourds every Saturday and Sunday through the end of October. There’s also a 6 acre corn maze, or a straw maze for the younger ones. Located north of Lansing in St. Johns, a day on the farm will help you cross off items from your fall bucket list.

Enjoy the Legend of Sleepy Howell

This annual event taking place in downtown Howell is packed with exciting, fall activities. Taking place on October 24 from 5-8pm, there will be trick-or-treat stations, a costume contest, creepy campfires, and hay activities such as hayrides, mazes, and climbs. The event features live music and local business booths, and there’s even a free showing of Hocus Pocus! The Livingston County Halloween event will take place rain or shine, and you won’t want to miss it.

Spend an Afternoon at Fitzgerald Park

Fitzgerald Park is open year round and offers three miles of nature and hiking trails, picnicking, a playground, nature center, and kayak/canoe access to the Grand River. It’s basically the perfect spot for a casual, fall afternoon. After taking a leisurely hike along the trails, admiring the beautifully colored fall foliage, you can relax with a nice picnic and your favorite people.
